The Roys are a family of five: Mike, who grew up in the city, and Julie, who was raised in a small village. They met in 2011 and welcomed their son, Landon, in 2013. Landon’s arrival changed their lives. Mike’s career spanned from framing to ironworking, eventually earning his journeyman status with Local 721. Meanwhile, Julie pursued studies in addictions and psychology, graduating with honors shortly before their daughter, Leah, was born in early 2020. Leah’s birth involved a placental abruption that required an emergency C-section. The couple initially believed their family was complete, but in 2021, their third child, Lilly, arrived.
After nearly 20 years in the trades, Mike found that the travel demands of ironworking no longer suited his family life. In 2019, he launched M & J Contracting, which quickly expanded. The company went from a single truck and trailer to a robust fleet, including multiple trucks, trailers, trough machines, and man lifts.
